I was born and raised in Mexico City, where I attended the French Lycée and completed a baccalauréat in Literature and Mathematics. In the United States, I earned my BFA from the Jewelry and Metalsmithing Department at the Rhode Island School of Design, where I taught from 2000 to 2011.

I come from a family of artists and designers, and have been an independent jewelry designer since 1996. Though I was born and raised in Mexico, my artistic and design influences are mainly European (my architect father championed Bauhaus Design). In my earlier years as a jewelry designer and maker, I brought that modernist sensibility to my designs.

As I began my career, I explored geometric forms in designs that were spare yet compelling; more recently, I’ve refined that concern by studying the complex geometry that occurs in nature, distilling and interpreting them to arrive at simple, elegant, and fluid evocations. My one of a kind amphora series builds on this fluidity by using a stylized version of that classic Greek form to produce pieces that are, like their namesake, bold, symmetrical, and balanced. These one-of-a-kind pieces often allow me to become immersed in unusual materials, concepts, and techniques and play freely with ideas that I wouldn’t otherwise be able to explore.

My ready to wear jewelry is meant to bring a smile to your day. I strive to make jewelry that is versatile in that the items can often be worn equally well with a casual outfit or an evening gown. Some of the most fulfilling pieces I’ve designed have been designed for particular people. A custom-made jewelry piece is a coherent composite of several functions. It is, first, a symbolic manifestation of one’s own aesthetic preferences and engagements. But if the piece is also meant to commemorate, it needs to integrate a narrative and preserve a memory. For example, the necklace designed to celebrate a couple’s 20th anniversary incorporates design elements inspired by the sea to represent the location where they first met. These types of pieces become immensely significant to their wearers, since they often gain significance even after being worn for many years.

I use primarily gold and platinum but also work in more unusual materials. I love to create engagement rings, wedding bands, and anniversary pieces in particular because they contain a story that strongly reflects the owner and therefore are especially meaningful. I enjoy helping clients find the right stone (precious or semi-precious) and metal (sterling, gold, platinum, palladium or something more unusual) and will work with them face to face or via skype or email to arrive at the best design option for their budget.
